Last part first. Yeah, a little bit. I liked the Transformers when I was a kid. Now I'm all grown up and I should know better. There are two reasons actually.

First, I think Transformers is an enjoyable part of American culture and I want to preserve the part that I value, plus introduce a new generation of Transformer fans to Optimus Prime. Read Who Is Optimus Prime? for more about OP.

Second, I wanted to start making my own web site from the ground up and become more familiar with HTML. Since I've tried my hand at the blog thing, I've decided to build something from the ground up. Well, not entirely since I used HTML templates, but it's close. And talking about OP is fun.

What should I look at first while I'm here?

The Quote Index is pretty extensive and gives readers a sense of Prime's great character. Each quote has accompanying episode information and most have a corresponding screencap. The index is organized by topic category. You can also keyword search at the top for names of episodes or by key words.

So how do you pick the quotes?

Quotes are selected by my personal preference, but I try to keep some basic rules in mind. A quote needs to illustrate Optimus Prime's character, be iconic ("Transform and roll out!") and/or can stand on its own out of context. For some quotes I include more dialog because the quotes won't make sense without context.

How come I can't find pictures of Soundwave or one of my other favorite characters in the Quote Index?

Since the Quote Index is Prime-centric, the photos mainly revolve around quotes of Optimus Prime and the characters involved when he speaks. This means that the number and variety of characters in the pictures is kind of limited.

For example, Soundwave is missing from most of the screencaps because he and Prime are rarely in the same scene together when Prime speaks. In fact, I can't recall one moment in the animated series or movie when Prime actually speaks directly to Soundwave (email me if you can think of one). So this means that your favorite character, obscure or not, might not be pictured. Sorry.

Transformers is cursed with a varying and conflicting mythology. You need to pick and choose your continuity. There's a lot out there to choose from, and these are my selections. I find that G1 is still my personal favorite. Peter Cullen has been, and will always be, the defining voice actor for Optimus Prime, and that's why I limit the content to media featuring his work.

The multiple anime series from Japan in the last decade are lacking in characterizations, writing and voice acting talent...and are just plain goofy. The comics aren't well known but have their place.

There's been a lot of dissatisfaction out there of the live-action movies among the hard-core Transfans and they do have their flaws, but I enjoyed them overall with a few reservations.

I highly recommend Transformers: Animated to anyone who wants to watch an animated series other than the original.

What if I like Megatron?

Hey, there's no accounting for taste. In all honesty, Megatron is a great villain. He's a cold, ruthless, self-serving, genocidal megalomaniac, and I love every time Optimus kicks his butt because he really deserves it.

No. I do not have any kind of profit-generating instrument behind this site. In fact, this site costs me money and time. However, as a creative professional, I firmly believe in intellectual property rights and copyright law. I created this site as a hobby, to have fun and as a tribute to the character. I don't make any money off of it and I'm not planning to.
